Today our primary task is to protect historical truth.

Alexander Lukashenko sent greetings to participants of the second International Forum of the Union State 'The Great Heritage – Common Future'.

'Heartfelt greetings to you on hospitable Belarusian land. It is symbolic that the Forum is being held in the city of Brest, which 85 years ago was the first to bear the brunt of the Hitlerite war machine, demonstrating to the world the greatness of spirit and the invincibility of the Soviet soldier. The cost of the Great Victory was tens of millions of lives lost. Belarus lost one in every three. By uncovering new facts about the genocide of the Belarusian people, we provide legal assessments of the crimes of the fascists, to protect the memory of innocent victims and soldiers who performed a great feat.'

The head of state noted that on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, representatives of all republics of the Soviet Union fought side by side against Nazism:

'This was a battle for life and freedom, for our own country and other European states, saved thanks to the courage and heroism of the multinational Soviet people.'

'Now our primary task is to protect historical truth, to safeguard it from those who rewrite history, tear down monuments to heroes, and try to consign the feats of our fathers and grandfathers to oblivion. A special role in preserving memory belongs to youth, who must live and work in the modern world relying on the wisdom of ancestors and pass this baton to future generations. The Forum’s motto, 'The Great Heritage – Common Future,' calls us to move forward together for the present and future of our states, for peace on our native land.'

Alexander Lukashenko wished the forum participants fruitful work, endless energy, happiness, and goodwill.
