Mobile Phone Networks in Belarus

Three main mobile operators operate in Belarus: MTS Belarus, A1 Belarus (formerly Velcom), and life:). They provide 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE services with excellent national coverage. 5G has been tested but is not yet widely available due to technical and regulatory reasons.

Networks and Coverage

The 4G LTE network is highly developed, especially A1 which now covers over 99% of the population. It uses both low-band 800 MHz for rural coverage and 2600 MHz for high-capacity urban zones, including advanced 4x4 MIMO antennas.

2G and 3G networks are widely available and ensure full voice and basic data coverage even in remote areas.

SIM Activation and Services

To buy and activate a SIM card, you must present a valid passport for mandatory registration.

SIM and eSIM are widely available at official stores or partner locations.

Activation is usually immediate or within a few hours.

Important Notes on A1

A1 charges an additional daily fee if you share your mobile connection via hotspot or tethering to other devices.

Public WiFi and Costs

Free public WiFi is widespread in cafes, restaurants, malls, and transport hubs.

Combining prepaid SIM usage with public WiFi is a good strategy for occasional users. However, mobile data in Belarus remains very affordable even for heavy usage.
