Belarus, Russia sign 3rd NPP block pact
Agreement to build third power unit
Belarus and Russia will sign a framework agreement on the construction of the third power unit of the Belarusian NPP by the end of the year. The station has already generated about 17 billion kWh of electricity, and the share of nuclear energy in the country's electricity consumption structure has reached 40%. The nuclear power plant also provides a synergistic effect, beneficial both for the power industry and related sectors, increasing the load on the grids. The President has instructed the Government to systematically address modernization. Volumes have already been calculated. Svetlana Lukyanuk emphasized the need to upgrade infrastructure, expand charging stations, and use local fuel sources.
Context
The Belarusian NPP already supplies 17 bn kWh and nuclear accounts for 40% of the country's electricity.
