Russian military personnel flight departed

A plane carrying Russian servicemen released from Ukrainian captivity has arrived in Moscow from Belarus. The aircraft was used to transport the freed personnel who arrived in the Russian capital as part of a prisoner exchange agreement concluded at the end of 2023. According to representatives of the Russian military, the servicemen returned to Russian territory aboard a chartered semi-private aircraft that provided a safe route from a Belarusian airport.

According to official data, the group of servicemen was released as part of the latest exchange following a prolonged military escalation. The route through Belarus became part of a coordinated logistical operation aimed at safely returning the servicemen to their homeland.

Context

In 2023, an agreement on mutual prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine was reached, resulting in the return of dozens of Russian servicemen.
