Lukashenko on alliance
The president emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership
At a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed the position on the need to develop alliance relations and strategic partnership between Belarus and Russia. According to Lukashenko, the global trading system is facing blockades, economic restrictions, and energy blockades, increasing the necessity for strengthening economic and technological sovereignty of the Union State countries.
In his statement, the president noted that countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran, which are common partners, have become targets of serious interference, primarily through the economy. He emphasized that protecting the common market and union products is a security priority alongside military components.
Lukashenko also mentioned the beginning of practical implementation of the security guarantees agreement within the Union State, as well as the deployment of the 'Oreshnik' missile system on combat duty in Belarus in December. The president stressed that joint actions in the field of international justice and mutual support would be an important step in protecting common interests and the inviolability of international law.
Context
The Union State was established in 1999 and became the foundation for economic and political union between Belarus and Russia.
