Illegal migration blocked

Employees of the 8th Department of the State Administration for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Gomel Region, together with colleagues from the Border Monitoring Department of the Department of Internal Affairs, uncovered a scheme of illegal migration and shut down the corresponding channel. According to representatives of the agencies, the actions are aimed at preventing illegal border crossing and subsequent entry into EU countries.

Experts believe that the discovered route was used for transporting migrants through Soviet-era roads bypassing official checkpoints. Information about the intervention was provided by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Border Monitoring Department of the Department of Internal Affairs in an official statement.

In response to these actions, the government announced enhanced control in the Gomel Region.

The Gomel Region has served several times as a route for illegal migration flows, therefore, control efforts in the region are considered part of a broader program to strengthen border crossings.
