Blackmail after dismissal: data breach

A representative of an IT company contacted the city police, reporting the unauthorized download of confidential information from nine million users of a gaming platform. According to his statement, a former employee of a 43-year-old resident of Minsk, dismissed for poor performance, had saved the login and password for accessing the corporate resource on his laptop. Using these credentials, he logged in and copied the database. He then contacted his former supervisor and allegedly demanded a large sum of money, threatening to disclose the information. He planned to use the money earned to buy a new car. Investigators opened a criminal case for unlawful possession of computer information.
