Minsk uncovers child kidnapping scam
In Minsk, police uncovered a fraud scheme in which criminals faked the kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl to force her mother to transfer money to a cryptocurrency wallet. An unknown person called the Minsk resident and sent a photo of the child and an apartment where ransom was demanded. The girl was not inside the apartment and was eventually found at a suburban café, where she was unharmed. It turned out that the schoolgirl had recently received a message from a marketplace 'courier' who asked her to confirm the delivery address and provide her email and a code from an email. After clicking the link in the email, a standard fraud scheme was activated.
