Louvre seeks restorers for Eugenia's crown
The Louvre Museum has announced a search for restorers to restore the crown of Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III. The piece was severely damaged during a robbery: thieves crushed and deformed the ornament. All 56 emeralds set in the crown remained intact, and only ten small stones at the base were missing out of 1354 diamonds. The central orb of the piece was preserved. The crown was found near the museum shortly after the robbery; the thieves abandoned the headpiece as they fled.
