Belarusian Maslenitsa to be added to UNESCO
Project for inclusion in the intangible cultural heritage
Belarusian Maslenitsa, a traditional folk festival, is vying for UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage status. As part of an international program to preserve cultural heritage, the country has submitted an application emphasizing the uniqueness of Maslenitsa customs linked to Slavic beliefs, folk dances, musical traditions, and cuisine. Academic experts noted that Maslenitsa unites various social groups, helps preserve the language, and strengthens national identity. The application also includes extensive research on traditions, historical data, and current forms of celebration. The official decision on inclusion will be made at UNESCO's annual Council meeting.
Belarusian Maslenitsa has applied for inclusion in UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
