Belarus pardons 156 citizens
The solution involves lifting sanctions and international dialogue
In accordance with the agreements reached with US President Donald Trump, and in connection with the cancellation of illegal sanctions against Belarus's potash industry and the transition towards abandoning other sanctions, the President of the Republic of Belarus decided to pardon 123 citizens of various countries who had been convicted under the laws of the Republic of Belarus for espionage, terrorist, and extremist activities.
Among those pardoned were citizens of the United Kingdom, the United States, Lithuania, Ukraine, Latvia, Australia, and Japan. In total, the overall number of pardoned individuals has recently increased to 156. According to the country's leadership, these measures have been taken to accelerate positive dynamics in relations with partners and to stabilize the situation in the European region.
Context
Earlier, at the end of November, the president had already announced the first part of the pardons, involving 33 individuals.
Belarus has pardoned 156 citizens, including representatives of Western countries, as part of coordinated measures with the U.S. to lift sanctions.
