Year of Belarusian Woman announced
President Igor Sergeenko highlights women's contributions
In 2026, Belarusian President Igor Sergeenko announced that the year would be designated the Year of the Belarusian Woman, according to Presidential Decree No. 1. On January 22, the Speaker of the House of Representatives met with representatives of the Belarusian Women's Union, which includes approximately 200,000 members. During the meeting, he highly praised women's contributions to all spheres of national life and their role in the development of parliamentarism. The Speaker proposed actively involving the BWU in public scrutiny of legislation, which, he said, fully aligns with the President's concept of people's lawmaking. The meeting marked the beginning of joint efforts between the authorities and the BWU during the Year of the Belarusian Woman, aimed at further strengthening women's roles and national unity.
