Deputy Minister of Forestry discusses challenges and recovery
The Ministry of Forestry of Belarus reported that in 2025 the forestry sector faced several difficulties. Among them were tree stand damage caused by windfalls and blowdowns, as well as challenges in timber transportation due to abnormal heat in December and a prolonged rainy period. "Despite the difficulties, forestry workers are coping with their tasks, as we have already achieved almost all indicators of the socio-economic development forecast, carried out timely reforestation, and improved financial results," noted Deputy Minister Igor Malashevich. According to him, in 2025, gross profit reached 108% of the planned figure, real wages reached 107%, and the volume of harvested timber amounted to about 20.5 million cubic meters.
Context
In 2024, the forestry sector in Belarus also faced difficulties due to extreme weather conditions, which became the foundation for subsequent measures to restore and improve the industry's performance.
In 2025, Belarusian forests faced issues with damaged stands and timber removal, but timely restoration and improved financial efficiency helped overcome these challenges.
