Lukashenko signs decree on lotteries
New law will strengthen protection of minors from gambling
On February 20 in Minsk, President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree "On Improving Lottery Activities." The decree amends the previous decision of the head of state dated May 4, 2007, No. 209. It provides for stricter control over lotteries, in particular prohibiting individuals under 18 years of age and those restricted from visiting gambling establishments from participating in electronic instant lotteries. In addition, banks must reject transactions related to payment of lottery bets for such individuals, and funds to gaming accounts may only be credited in non-cash form. State authorities have stated that the measures are aimed at strengthening protection of minors and other socially vulnerable categories of citizens.
The president signed a decree banning minors from participating in electronic lotteries, requiring banks to refuse payments for bets by minors and restricted individuals, and introducing non-cash payments for gaming accounts.
