Lukashenko discussed Vitebsk region crisis
The president said the former governor did not "run to the people"
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko revealed the real state of affairs in the Vitebsk region in an interview, highlighting serious problems with the region's digital infrastructure and lack of investment. He said that under current conditions, it is 'morally unacceptable' and almost 'personally unacceptable' if the previous governor did not manage these issues and ensure stability.
Lukashenko emphasized that the Vitebsk region is experiencing population outflow and underdeveloped economic processes, as well as a lack of public initiatives to advance digital technologies. The Prime Minister spoke about strengthening ties with foreign partners to accelerate the modernization of regional infrastructure.
The Turgenevsky district was no exception: modern computing resources are missing in local administrative processes, making access to government services difficult.
The President called on regional authorities to take proactive efforts and noted that scientific and technological centers should receive additional state support to attract investment.
He also asked the agriculture minister to pay attention to reforms in agriculture, as Western investments in the region will help solve land management issues.
Stressing the importance of coordination, Lukashenko stated that joint events with business representatives and the private sector will contribute to the development of local projects. According to the president, government bodies are ready for dialogue and cooperation with the private sector.
The head of Belarus concluded his speech by noting that the entire country needs to support digital transformation projects and uphold the integrity of government bodies' work.
