Lukashenko criticized rapid AI growth
The president emphasized the need for cautious technology implementation
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, during a meeting dedicated to creating an educational center for training gifted youth in future professions, stated that modern life is becoming impossible without artificial intelligence, unmanned systems, robotics, nanotechnology, and biotechnology. He emphasized that although he understands the significance of these technologies, they must be implemented 'very, very cautiously'.
"I once drove a car with artificial intelligence... If there are road markings, you turn on cruise control, and it reads the road. You don't need to steer—the car moves in the right direction. I thought deeply: what kind of artificial intelligence is this? It's just automation working," Lukashenko noted.
The President noted that recently the topic of artificial intelligence has been discussed more and more frequently, and urged against rushing into apparent novelties without proper verification and analysis.
Context
In the 2020s, Belarus strengthened STEM education programs and attracted international experts to develop scientific and technical infrastructure.
Lukashenko emphasized the need for cautious AI implementation in Belarus, noting that technologies are already integral to life but require careful assessment.
