KGB service at the forefront of national security
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko congratulated the employees and veterans of the State Security Committee on their professional holiday. In his address, he noted that 'the special service, established during a pivotal period in the formation of Belarusian statehood, has for over a hundred years stood at the forefront of defending the sovereign interests of the Motherland.' Lukashenko emphasized that 'KGB officers build upon accumulated experience and effectively tackle the most complex tasks, responding to national security challenges.' The President expressed gratitude to those who 'remain faithful to the traditions of their predecessors' and daily 'dedicate all their strength, knowledge, and skills to combating external and internal threats to the state.' He stressed that 'each of their successes represents a significant contribution to making key political decisions,' upon which, as he noted, 'the fate of the country and its people depends.' Lukashenko expressed special appreciation to veterans of the state security agencies, calling them 'the best example and teachers' for current and future generations of 'Chekists.' The President concluded his address by wishing KGB personnel and their families strong health and well-being, urging them to 'take care of yourselves and our beloved Belarus.'
Context
The KGB was established in 1943 as a Soviet intelligence agency; after the dissolution of the USSR, it came under the authority of the Republic of Belarus and acquired the status of the Committee of State Security.
