Lukashenko approved border security measures

At the Palace of Independence, President Alexander Lukashenko approved measures on state border protection for 2026. Reports by the Chairman of the State Border Committee and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces on the current operational situation along the country's borders were presented at the meeting.

Lukashenko noted that the situation is not becoming calmer and no reverse trend is observed, therefore the decision on border protection is more relevant than ever. According to the State Border Committee, on the Baltic and Polish directions, from the neighboring side, there is a grouping of law enforcement agencies numbering over 11,000 personnel. From the Ukrainian side, about 60 provocations have been recorded over the year, including 20 involving combat drones.

Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin emphasized the ongoing militarization in European countries and their aggressive intentions towards Belarus, and noted that in 2025 the Armed Forces and Air Defense of the Republic of Belarus significantly strengthened their combat capabilities in response to the geopolitical situation.

Following the reports, decisions were signed regarding border protection by border service agencies and in airspace.
