Lukashenko: we won't take Vitebsk region
The president announced refusal to further strain the regions
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that further 'dragging' of regions, including Vitebsk, as well as certain enterprises in Mogilev, Gomel, and Minsk regions, would not continue. He emphasized that citizens must 'start pushing back' in order to live and work without unnecessary state-imposed obligations. His remarks underscored that the central government does not intend to continue bearing the burden of regional responsibilities, which had been a subject of discussion within the framework of economic development reforms.
Context
Earlier, within the framework of economic development reforms, the ratio of regional investments and burdens on local budgets was discussed.
Lukashenko refused to bear the burden of the regions further and called on citizens to start pushing for a better life.
