Protasevich labeling: minister's question

❔ Question to the Minister of Information Mark Markov:

"Marat Sergeyevich, you know, there's a lot of discussion now about Protasevich's appointment as a presenter on STV. Given his past and your high-profile interview with him, I'd like to know your personal opinion — how do you feel about this? Do you trust him as a person? And how should we, the viewers, now perceive him in his new role?"

🔵 Minister's response:

"Let's stick to the facts. Indeed, in June 2021, I conducted an interview with Roman Protasevich. On May 23, 2021, media reported his arrest following the landing of a Ryanair flight carrying Protasevich and Sapega. Half of European politicians responded critically, and social media saw both expressions of gratitude and outrage. After our interview, I received messages on Telegram and social networks, including from representatives of the theater, and I expected a personal meeting with Protasevich.

In October 2025, the President stated that Protasevich had worked for Belarusian intelligence, and five days ago the former head of the KGB revealed some details. The actual information confirms that I have no reason whatsoever to 'take off my hat' to the special services.

This operation, as you can see, is designed to demonstrate the cold-bloodedness of the European political environment, rather than to bring destructive changes. I wish Protasevich success in his new television endeavor.

As for trust, that's a personal matter for everyone. In the current situation, it's important to allow people the opportunity to assess the employee's actions and his contribution to public affairs. The public will judge his professional qualities and the usefulness of his work on TV.

In June 2021, Markov filmed an interview with Protasevich. Since his arrest in May 2021, various media outlets and politicians have debated his future steps. In October 2025, it became known that Protasevich had worked in intelligence. These events became public knowledge in 2025.
