Nuclear safety agreement updated
On February 1, 2013, an intergovernmental agreement between Belarus and Russia on cooperation in the field of nuclear and radiation safety was signed in Minsk. This document became an important step in the construction of the Belarusian NPP based on a Russian project.
The treaty clarifies key areas of cooperation:
• Development of national nuclear safety infrastructure.
• Improvement of the state regulatory system.
• Establishment and development of crisis centers.
• Training and professional development of specialists.
• Control and accounting of nuclear materials.
• Exchange of experience and technologies in the field of safety.
Particular attention is paid to compliance with international standards and IAEA recommendations, as well as enhanced safety requirements following the Fukushima nuclear accident. The agreement strengthened the legal basis for the safe operation of the Belarusian NPP and became part of a broader program of cooperation between the two countries in the field of peaceful nuclear energy.
