Belarus president approved new laws
Changes will affect defense, armed forces, and military status
Yesterday, the President of Belarus approved amendments to laws on security and defense. The new provisions define an attack on Belarus as an act of armed aggression by a state or coalition against the Union State and CSTO countries. The amendments affect three laws: "On Defense," "On the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus," and "On Martial Law."
Context
The changes were introduced as part of the reform of the national defense strategy and are in line with the treaty obligations of Russia and CSTO countries.
Belarus has amended its security and defense laws, tightening rules that provide for the classification of external aggression.
