President on youth training center
Explained the importance of maintaining the university's quality
During a meeting on establishing an educational center for training gifted youth, the President of Belarus expressed concern that part of the experimental programs (8 out of 18 already implemented in universities) might be transferred from leading universities to the center. He asked, "Why is it proposed to move some of the ongoing experimental programs (8 out of 18 already implemented at universities) from our leading universities to the center? Are they not coping?" In addition to raising concerns about potential risks, the president noted that some of the areas proposed for the new center are already being developed in universities and the National Academy of Sciences. He emphasized that "we cannot afford to deplete the staff of the country's leading higher education institutions, and even less so weaken regional universities." The president stated that a decline in education quality is unacceptable, as it affects the international prestige of higher education and the export of educational services.
