Fines for illegal logging exceed the cost
The deputy minister noted the high penalty amounts
According to Igor Malashevich, Deputy Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus, fines for illegal tree felling are several times higher than the price of a Christmas tree at holiday markets. Malashevich noted that such actions become especially dangerous during the New Year holidays, as state forestry protection intensively monitors violations. He emphasized that 'fines are several times higher than the prices if you go not far from your home to buy one.' At the same time, he spoke about the availability of Christmas tree markets—state and private—where plant material can be legally purchased.
According to the statement, police forces and forestry protection agencies in Belarus are operating with stricter measures to prevent illegal logging and preserve forest resources.
A deputy of the Ministry of Forestry stated that fines for illegal tree cutting in Belarus significantly exceed the prices of original Christmas trees, noting active monitoring by forest protection authorities.
