Removed a 60 kg giant tumor
A 50-year-old man underwent an extraordinary surgery to remove a rare liposarcoma
Doctors at the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncological Dispensary removed a tumor weighing 60 kilograms. According to specialists, such surgical complexity had not been encountered in 30 years of practice. The fibrous tumor, previously mistaken for fat, had gradually grown, disrupting the functions of the liver, intestines, and bladder. The patient's weight increased from 150 to 180 kg over one month. The surgery lasted 7 hours and 40 minutes. To minimize blood loss, an autotransfusion system was used. Since the tumor occupied almost the entire abdominal cavity, the standard positioning of the patient on the operating table was impossible. A team of eight surgeons was required for the carefully planned stages. After surgery, the patient is undergoing rehabilitation, and the overall prognosis is favorable.
