Decree on admission campaign reform
New law regulates university admissions
President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on improving the admissions campaign, aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for applicants entering higher and secondary specialized education. The document establishes a state commission to monitor the preparation and implementation of the campaigns, and approves its permanent membership. The commission will oversee university olympiads that grant eligibility for admission benefits. Deputy Prime Minister Natalya Petkevich has been appointed as the commission's chairperson. The decree updates provisions of the admission rules, including the elimination of the work experience requirement for distance learning and clarification of benefits for individuals studying at universities established by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. A new subject-specific exam on "History of Belarus in the Context of World History" is introduced, replacing the discipline "History of Belarus" in grades 10-11.
