Mercedes CLA 220 to get Geely engine
The compact sedan will be equipped with an M252 1.5-liter turbocharged engine
Mercedes-Benz announced that the 2026 CLA 220 model will be equipped with
a 1.5-liter turbocharged M252 engine developed jointly with the Chinese company Geely and produced in China as part of a partnership with Aurobay/Horse Powertrain.
The engine delivers 188 hp (300 Nm) and, combined with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that adds torque, total output reaches 208 hp and 380 Nm.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.1 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h.
The project combines Mercedes' strategy of cost optimization and improved efficiency for junior models based on the MMA platform.
Earlier reports mentioned the possible use of a 2.0-liter Geely engine in other CLA versions; for the CLA 220, the 1.5-liter variant will be adopted.
