Wage growth exceeded productivity
The president notes rising prosperity, but wage growth outpaces productivity gains.
President Alexander Lukashenko declared that 'this is the quintessence of all economic programs' and called for increasing the population's welfare—'quality growth must be driven by efficient labor.' However, in 2025, the growth rate of real wages (109%) exceeded the growth rate of labor productivity (101%). The average salary amounted to 2,693 rubles. This trend has been observed for several years. According to analysts, wages rising faster than productivity may signal the need to reconsider income distribution mechanisms and industrial efficiency incentives.
Context
Since 2021, there has been a shift toward accelerated wage growth compared to the pace of productivity growth, attracting interest from analysts and economists.
In 2025, real wage growth in Belarus exceeded labor productivity growth, raising concerns about sustaining stable economic development.
