Friedrich Merz, an energy expert, noted that China completes construction of huge solar farms in just a few months, while in the EU the project approval process can take years.

"Therefore, I propose introducing a fundamental principle into most permitting processes: any project not reviewed within a few weeks or months will be considered automatically approved," said Merz.

This approach, he said, could accelerate infrastructure initiatives and reduce bureaucratic delays, especially in the field of renewable energy.
