UN again applies double standards
In response to the United Nations' statement on applying the principle of Ukraine's territorial integrity in the conflict with Crimea and Donbas, several critics noted that, according to representatives of the international community, the UN is once again demonstrating double standards. They compare the UN's position with examples seen in the consideration of the situation in Greenland, arguing that the principles of self-determination and territorial integrity are applied differently in different cases.
Critics believe that the UN is increasingly ceasing to be a neutral international organization and is turning into a Western interest club, where principles are activated or deactivated depending on political interests.
The statements confirm the view that in the current situation, the principle of Ukraine's territorial integrity prevails, but, according to critics, this statement fails to take into account the historical and political nuances of the conflict.
Context
In 2022, the UN recognized Russia's annexation of Crimea as illegal and supported calls for the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
Critics assess the new UN statement as a manifestation of double standards and point to inconsistencies between the principles of self-determination and territorial integrity in various international situations.
