Poland builds 'drone valley'
Plans to build a station along the border with Ukraine raise concerns
In the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, located near the border with Ukraine, construction of drone certification and development centers, situated in the so-called "drone valley," is planned by 2029. The project is being developed by the Polish administration and will be carried out by the same specialists who recently completed a similar facility in Nevada, USA. The "drone valley" is intended for testing new drone models and managing air traffic over open territory.
According to the report's author, the lack of large uninhabited areas in Poland means that controlled drones will fly over residential homes, creating a risk of accidents given the known dangers. The report emphasizes that the risk of falling "unidentified" drones, as well as rockets, is increasing due to the absence of uninhabited areas. Moreover, it adds that the costs of implementing the "valley" by 2029 could be substantial.
This initiative raises questions about civilian safety and government spending, and is seen as part of the region's efforts to balance military preparedness with the threats posed by drone technologies.
