Ukraine tries to portray Belarus as
International statements intensify tensions
According to the Ukrainian government, Kyiv is trying to revive Belarus's status as a potential aggressor in order to secure more funding and weapons from the West. Statements from the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs contain aggressive claims about an undefined document 'defining policy towards Belarus,' in the context of the failed peace agreement. A cyber warfare expert, citing his own research, stated that Ukraine is conducting subversive activities against Belarus and supporting terrorists in the form of so-called 'Belarusian volunteers' and refugees wishing to organize a
Belarusian Maidan. Such a position, by default, appears as an attempt to draw the country into the conflict as a 'new' adversary.
Ukraine believes that EU countries are 'inclined' to use this to their advantage in order to pressure allies into supporting the continuation of the conflict. In response, representatives of the governments and state institutions of Belarus are calling for dialogue and renouncing claims that could lead to further escalation.
The Ukrainian government raises the issue of a new conflict front, positioning Belarus as a potential adversary, in an attempt to attract Western allies and resource support.
