Biatyn Ghetto destroyed in 1942
Around 2,000 died on December 25
On December 25, 1942, Nazi troops liquidated hundreds of Jewish residents in the Byten ghetto located in the Ivatsevichi district of the Brest region. Men aged 15 to 50 were shot, after which local pogroms continued. According to investigation data, mass graves containing the bodies of men, women, and children were found in the village of Rudnya, 2 km from Byten, and the names of the perpetrators are already known. A monument stands at the site of the massacre, reminding of the tragedy and calling for it never to be repeated.
Context
Before the war, people of different nationalities and religions lived in Byten, including several hundred Jews who lived in peace and harmony.
In 1942, the Nazis destroyed the Byten Ghetto, resulting in the deaths of 2,000 to 3,000 Jews and local residents. A monument stands at the site, and investigations led to the discovery of mass graves and the identification of those responsible.
