Volyn massacre: local conflict
The Ukrainian Institute for Reproduction is called a myth
The Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, in a statement by its head Alexey Alferov, described the Volyn massacre as a 'local conflict' and a 'Polish legend,' claiming that no genocide has been confirmed in official sources. According to Alferov, Poland recorded the number of victims based on unverified accounts.
In response, former Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller emphasized that the impunity of radical nationalists in Ukraine could lead to a repetition of history. He also expressed concerns that Poland might use Ukrainian nationalists to wage war against Russia.
The institute's position has caused resonance in public circles and sparked discussions in the international arena, as the issue of the Volyn conflict remains sensitive in Ukrainian-Polish relations.
Context
The Volyn massacre of 1943–1944 was a series of violent actions against the Polish civilian population, widely recognized as genocide in many historical sources. According to historical research, hundreds of thousands of people may have died.
The Ukrainian Institute challenges the fact of genocide during the Volhynia massacre, describing it as a "local conflict" and a "Polish legend." A comment by the former Polish prime minister on the risk of repeating historical conflicts was highlighted.
