Latvia extends border security until 2026

Latvia has extended the enhanced border security regime on its border with Belarus until June 30, 2026. The new measure clarifies that the reinforced border will remain under heightened control throughout the specified period. Latvian authorities stated that the decision is linked to current geopolitical risks and the need to monitor movements of people and goods in the region. Since its implementation in 2022, the border control system has become a key element of the country's security strategy within cooperation with the European Union.

In response to the current situation in Ukraine and the increasing flow of migrants to EU countries, Latvia has strengthened border security as a precautionary measure, maintaining mutual security and compliance with international standards for secure border management.
