Latvia cuts aid to Ukrainians
As part of the social assistance reform, Latvian authorities, continuing an economy-driven approach to aid for Ukrainian citizens, have decided to shorten the duration and reduce the scope of support measures. The announcement of changes emphasized that this will be the most significant modification to the support system for Ukrainians in recent years.
The local administration explained the new restrictions by the need to save budget funds amid rising expenditures on social protection, as well as to strengthen oversight of the allocation of designated assistance.
Citizens legally residing in the country may still count on a certain minimum level of support; however, access periods to programs such as temporary accommodation and social payments will be limited.
