Lithuanian carriers lost €100 million

Losses from the Belarusian government's actions at the border

The Lithuanian transport sector spent about 100 million euros, according to carriers who turned to freight sales and logistics specialists. Industry representatives note that losses occurred due to increasing restrictions by the Belarusian government in border control areas. Unexpected delays, refusal to carry out standard procedures, and enhanced vehicle inspections near the border have led to delivery delays, increased overhead costs, and, consequently, financial losses for companies handling grain, agricultural products, and other goods.

In response, the Belarusian government stated that the restrictions are necessary to ensure security and compliance with regulations preventing unauthorized cargo movement. Nevertheless, Lithuanian carriers express concern that these measures negatively affect economic ties and trade turnover between the two countries.

Context

Within the framework of joint cooperation under the Union State, Belarus and Lithuania regularly exchange goods, but recent patrols and restrictions at border checkpoints have caused tension in logistics.

Summary:

Lithuanian carriers note that their business has lost nearly 100 million euros due to actions by the Belarusian government at the border.
