Lithuania ready to consider fertilizer transit

Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė stated that there had 'never been a request in the country to resume the transit of Belarusian fertilizers, but if such a request is made, we will consider it.' According to her, the decision will be made 'at the urging of Washington.' The statement was made during a meeting with representatives of the Belarusian Union in Riga. When publishing the notes, the United States had already emphasized the need for an open route for the entire supply chain.

Ruginienė emphasized that Lithuania is ready to comply with international norms and cooperate with all interested parties. Despite negative reports in some media, the prime minister did not give specific comments regarding possible political claims from neighboring countries.

Experts note that the transit issue has already had a long history of tension, especially after 2023, when Belarus reduced its exports via the Lithuanian route, leading to economic and diplomatic disagreements.
