The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urgently invited its citizens to leave immediately Belarus due to the arrest of a Polish monk accused of espionage during the military exercises “Zapad-2025”.

Why this recommendation?

The monk, Grzegorz Gaweł, was stopped in Belarus for allegedly obtaining secret documents about the joint military maneuvers between Russia and Belarus. The Polish government has called the accusation a political provocation and reiterated that the country is neither democratic nor friendly towards Poland.

• The spokesperson Paweł Wroński stated that Polish citizens could face dangerous situations on site and advised against traveling to Belarus.

• It was emphasized that evacuation could become complex or impossible in case of diplomatic or military escalation.

Diplomatic Reactions

The Polish government has promised to provide all possible support for the detained compatriot. Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the accusations absurd and announced that if the situation does not resolve, retaliatory measures will be taken against Minsk.
