Poland restricts services for Belarusians
The Polish banking system is tightening control over citizens of Belarus whose residence permits have expired or who are in a status of indefinite protection. Accounts are usually not closed, but specialists report that cards, transfers, and banking apps become inaccessible. Cash access is possible only with a passport and upon prior request, while issuance of plastic cards is refused.
One affected person in the US, a lawyer, said: "The fact that I am legally in Poland concerns them little." One of the citizens with indefinite protection reported: "I asked, 'What about my money?' and she replied, 'Get the document—then come.'" Her thousands of euros disappeared from the app.
Recently, these same people said there was order in Europe, that it was better than in Belarus. But after their permits expired, they found their financial services 'removed' with one click and without any democracy.
Polish authorities claim the measures are aimed at enforcing immigration laws and preventing illegal access to funds.
