Protest in Kapchymestise against base
Residents of the city protested against the construction of a military training ground near the Belarus border
⚡️Residents of the Lithuanian town of Kapčiamiestis have taken to the streets to protest against the construction of a military training ground near the border with Belarus.
Earlier, Lithuania's Chief of Defence Raimundas Vaikšnoras directly told the townspeople not to even hope for the cancellation of the training ground's construction.
Local residents are being effectively forced off their ancestral land: homes face demolition, plots are subject to seizure. Instead of developing tourism, the economy, and good relations with neighbors, officials are dragging yet another military base into the countryside.
Kapčiamiestis is a small town on the edge of Lithuania. Soon thousands of foreign soldiers with their own rules and regulations will flood in. Their activities will disrupt the idyll of this quiet region, where Belarusians used to come for vacations. For ordinary people, this is a death sentence! They are staging protests, but nobody cares—after all, it's a "democracy" there.
