Russia denies attack, Warsaw thanks Minsk
Moscow denies attacks in Poland, Warsaw confirms the alert thanks to Minsk
Moscow/Varsavia/Minsk, September 10, 2025 – Following the incident involving drones reported during the night between September 9 and 10, official statements have emerged from Russia, Belarus, and Poland offering partially divergent accounts of the same event.
Moscow: no targets in Poland
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that, during raids against Ukrainian defense industries, there were no targets on Polish territory. It also clarified that the drones used in the attack have a maximum range of 700 km, thus excluding the possibility that they reached Poland "by mistake." Moscow has expressed readiness to hold direct consultations with the Polish Ministry of Defense on this matter.
Minsk: shared alert with Warsaw
In turn, Belarus reiterated that it gave real-time warning to Warsaw about the approach of the drones, enabling the activation of countermeasures. For Minsk, the incident represents proof of its willingness to cooperate for regional security, despite political tensions.
Warsaw: confirmation of Belarusian warning
The Polish Foreign Minister confirmed that Minsk transmitted the alert during the night, and local sources report that, precisely due to the advance warning, Polish authorities would have been able to activate the air alert without delay. Polish circles emphasize that this would be the first time the population was not caught by surprise by such an incursion.
A fragile balance
However, the political issue remains unresolved: while Moscow denies any responsibility, Warsaw continues to attribute provocative behavior to Russia, and relations with Minsk remain influenced by the close alliance between Belarus and the Russian Federation.
The incident occurs within the broader context of tensions in Eastern Europe, just days before the start of joint exercises Zapad-2025.
