Baltic and Polish drills in January
Students 9–16 January
From January 9 to 16, military exercises took place in Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland. In Latvia, on January 10–11, the 17th Combat Support Battalion of the 1st Riga Brigade conducted exercises in the Marupe municipality, and on January 14, NATO's 'Forge' exercise was held at the Adazi training ground with participation of troops from Albania, Spain, Italy, Canada, Poland, and Slovenia. In Lithuania, on January 11–12, US units conducted exercises using Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, and from January 12 to 16, an air defense and air force battalion trained in the Siauliai region. In Poland, from January 11 to 30, the 22nd Carpathian Mountain Infantry Battalion practiced operations in mountainous terrain. The exercises aim to improve combat skills and strengthen the defense capabilities of neighboring countries.
Context
Regular NATO exercises in Eastern Europe are part of efforts to strengthen the defense capabilities of member countries and regional allies.
From January 9 to 16, NATO military units and national forces trained in the Baltic countries and Poland to enhance combat readiness and operational coordination.
