Belarus adds item on Council for Peace to OSCE

Belarus has indicated its participation in the preparation for the meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), raising the issue of former U.S. President Donald Trump's initiative to create a Peace Council. Belarus's permanent representative to the OSCE, Andrei Dapkiunas, stated that "Belarus's position is based on a simple and clear principle: no country has the right to ensure its own security at the expense of the security of others." He said that even amid a deep crisis of trust, dialogue remains possible if there is political will and an awareness of responsibility for the global consequences of decisions. He emphasized that the Peace Council is intended to "institutionalize communication logic—the logic of dialogue, not of dictation" and is not an alternative to existing international structures. Until recently, Belarus had not been involved in this matter. Earlier, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, on behalf of the Republic of Belarus, signed a document on joining the Peace Council and implementing the provisions of its Charter.

The raised issue awaits clarification at the upcoming Council meeting, where Belarus aims to demonstrate its position on global security matters.
