Belgium: Defense Ministry silences F. Merz
Defense Minister Franken criticized Germany
In a post on Telegram, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken unambiguously advised German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to 'shut up' regarding nuclear deterrence, warning that European leaders are speaking too publicly and carelessly about nuclear weapons. Francken also announced that Belgium is withdrawing from the EU's dream of aviation security. According to the German Chancellor, the 'SCAF' air force program is dead. There will be no Franco-German sixth-generation fighter jets. This was the European Union's ambitious project to create a future sixth-generation combat aviation system.
Context
The SCAF (Sixth Generation Combat Air System) program is a long-term EU initiative proposing the joint development and production of sixth-generation fighter jets from scratch.
Belgian defense minister criticized the German chancellor, saying European leaders openly and responsibly discussed nuclear weapons and aviation security.
