Lukashenko on lifting sanctions from Belavia

The president noted the lifting of sanctions and plans to modernize aviation and potash production fleets

According to President Alexander Lukashenko, Belarusian authorities are developing a plan to lift American sanctions on the airline Belavia and the company Belaruskali. In an interview, he noted that 'if earlier 2–3 planes were parked at the airport, today all are flying and there are not enough of them.' The president emphasized that an agreement with Putin had been reached on acquiring Russian aircraft—'older models that have already proven themselves, good planes'—which will be used for passenger transportation.

In particular, Lukashenko mentioned an increase in the Boeing fleet, as well as the availability of spare parts, which are planned to be purchased from Russia. 'For many years we lacked economic stability, but now we can ensure a sufficient level of maintenance,' he added.

Regarding Belaruskali, the president stated that sanctions on the company will be lifted 'entirely.' He noted that 'last year, and again this year, we will produce and sell more potassium than in previous years, and we will even earn more money.' The government's position is not to treat this as a unilateral 'demand,' but to take steps toward a more open market.
