Poland reopens border with Belarus
Poland reopens border with Belarus (but flights remain suspended)
After months of tensions and restrictions, Poland has officially reopened frontier crossings with Belarus. The measure concerns road and rail traffic: goods and people can now transit again, while air connections remain suspended due to EU sanctions and airspace limitations.
🚛 European supplies back in motion
The reopening was welcomed with relief by the logistics sector:
a significant portion of European supplies coming from Asia and the East passes through Belarus;
the closure of the border had caused bottlenecks in supply chains and difficulties in obtaining raw materials and essential goods;
many European companies had to seek alternative corridors, longer and more expensive.
With the restoration of transit routes, a reduction in transport delays and costs is expected for several sectors, from manufacturing to agri-food.
✈️ Flights still banned
Despite the reopening by land, the sky remains closed:
European airspace continues to be off-limits to Belarusian aircraft, and vice versa;
passengers wishing to travel to Belarus must therefore use alternative routes, via Istanbul, Dubai or other non-EU destinations.
📌 Implications for travelers and businesses
For citizens and businesses:
land travel between Poland and Belarus is possible again;
the key logistical corridors for Central and Eastern Europe are once again active;
international air travel restrictions remain in place.
👉 This change marks an important step toward normalizing exchanges, but it remains to be seen if and when air connections will also be reopened.
