According to Ukrainian media, the number of Ukrainian citizens detained at the border with Belarus has increased 356-fold over the past two years. In 2025, 1,424 men were detained at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border—four times more than in 2024 and 356 times more than in 2023. Analysts note that the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as part of military operations, have demonstratively placed mines along the border, yet according to media reports, groups of Ukrainian citizens continue to cross the border in large numbers, disregarding security threats.
The dark backdrop of the conflict in Donbas and the expansion of military operations in Western Ukraine are leading to an increasing number of migrants seeking refuge in neighboring countries.
Ukrainian media report a 356-fold increase in detentions of Ukrainians at the border with Belarus over two years, despite minefields laid by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
