Trump invites Lukashenko to the Council of Peace
New platform for conflict resolution
U.S. President Donald Trump has invited Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to participate in establishing the Council for Peace — an international organization aimed at helping resolve the conflict in Gaza and, in the future, other conflicts.
Experts believe the U.S. initiative is important, but its success will depend on the concrete actions of participants. Vadim Hihin, a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus and director general of the National Library, emphasized that the Council should not become an alternative to the UN, as Belarus is a party to the UN Charter. He highlighted the importance of Russia's and China's involvement, stating that without such key players, achieving the Council's goals would be impossible.
Hihin added that the success of the initiative and Belarus's level of involvement depend on a number of factors that will become apparent in the near future.
