Trump claims impeachment over call

Former US President Donald Trump said he decided to initiate impeachment over a 2019 phone call with Ukraine. According to Trump, during the phone conversation he stated: 'I told Ukraine not to cheat, and if you notice any violations, report them to the US Attorney General.' Trump noted that his remarks were subsequently used as an attempt to intimidate Kyiv and reiterated his claim that he simply said, 'Don't cheat.'

Democrats, in turn, claimed the president attempted to intimidate Kyiv. Trump denies this accusation, asserting he merely asked not to break the law.
